What is a broadband connection?

Broadband connection or broadband internet is defined as high speed, always on internet provided using different technoligies like Landline, Wifi or Satellite connections. Broadband is more stable compared to mobile internet and  has many advantages over Mobile internet. One of the advantages is you will be able to use internet on multiple devices simultaneously using one connection, using the router provided along with the broadband connection. In other words all your family members can have fast internet, you can connect to laptops, desktops and even mobiles, by connecting over wifi or LAN.

There are 2 types of Broadband connections available in Saibarkatte, which are:

Airfiber

Airfiber is nothing but high speed connection using 5G technology. The connection is enabled using an 5G device ( modem ) with antenna and a router. One of the advantages is there are no wires involved, so there is no issues of wire getting cut etc. There is one disadvantage, which is the speed of the connection can go up and down, accodring to the 5G signal strength. 

Fiber Optic / DSL

In this type of connection, the broadband is provided using Fiber Optic or Landline wires attached to a Modem and Router. The advantage is that this type of broadband has consistent speed, low latency compared to Airfiber. The disadvantage is that if there is a wire cut for any reason, the connection is broken ( you are with internet ) till the wires are fixed. This might happen during rainy reason, when tree branches fall on the wire or when the roads are dug and the optical fiber cables are damaged.

Jio Airfiber - also called as JioHome

Minimum amount to get the connection: Rs.2500/- ( for the base plan, you have other offers too )

Booking Amount: Rs.1000/-

Post Connection: Rs.1500/-

Jio was the first company to offer Airfiber in Saibrakatte, even though Airtel and Jio 5G network was available at the same time. Getting a connection is a 2 step process, first you have to book the connection, by paying Rs.1000, through their website or any Jio Stores. The nearest Jio Store is in Brahmavar, but it is closed most of the time, so it is better to visit Udupi Jio Store and book the connection. After the connection is booked, a Jio technician will visit and check if Airfiber network is available at your location or not. If the network is really bad, they will not give the connection and refund the booking amount of Rs.1000/-

Jio Airfiber has multiple plans, all of them have broadband and OTT. Once the connection is given, you will get a 5G Modem with attenna, router and a Jio setup box - which can be used to connect to TV using HDMI cable, to watch the OTT channels.

The basic plan starts with 30 Mbps speed at Rs.599/- + 18% GST upto 1000 GB.

Airtel Airfiber - also called as Airtel Xstream Airfiber

Minimum cost for getting the connection is Rs.1500/-

Airtel started offereing Airfiber late, compared to Jio, even though you were getting Airtel Airfiber in Udupi. 

Just like Jio Airfiber, Airtel Airfiber comes with a 5G modem with Antenna and a router. The base plan does not have OTT, so you might not get the setup box.

But Airtel Airfiber has a cheaper base plan, starts from Rs.499 + 18% GST at 40 Mbps speed upto 1000GB.

BSNL FTTH

Security Deposit: Rs.2000 /- + extra charges for the wire ( if your location is far from the main road )

Even though BSNL used to offer broadband connections, using landline connections, they had stopped in between. They have now started to offer Fiberoptic Broadband, also called as BSNL FTTH ( Fiber to the home ), for residential users. They had this service for commerical users before in Saibrakatte. BSNL has the cheapest broadband connection providers in Saibrakatte. 

You will get router only for the connection. If you want to use the landline, you have to get a landline phone instrument on your own.

This is a very good option if you are very close to the main road, otherwise they will charge you extra amount for providing the connection, depending on the length of the wire needed from the main road.

The plans start from Rs.299/- + 18% GST, but there is a limit of 10 GB.

Udupi net DSL

Connection charges: Rs.6000 /- 

Udupi fastnet is a braodband connection cum cable TV provider based out of Udupi. The local connections are managed by the local cable operator in Saibarkatte. According to their website, they provide connections using Fiber as well as DSL.
